I am a big fan of Reddit.com and specifically the frugal section. For those of you who do not know, Reddit is just an online forum where people can discuss various things – such as being frugal. I recently stumbled upon a post about this guy who wanted to share how frugal he really was. In my opinion he went extremely beyond Frugal and ventured into the stupid territory.  Here are some pictures of how he is living “frugally”.

“I pay $150/month to live in this backyard and share the kitchen, bathroom and living room with my house mates. I don’t own a car, I ride my bike. I end up spending less than $200 per month on food. I run ubuntu and free-open-source-software on my computer. “

You might think that this guy is broke. Leave him alone! But that is not the case; he gets $600 a month from the government and food stamps. Although, that is not a lot of money. He can do better with the amount he has. Guess how much this guy pays to stay in that tent?

This guy is paying $150 a month to live in someone’s backyard. He spends $200 on food, which is overboard for someone who lives in a tent. He could cut down on his budget for food and share an apartment with someone; you can easily share a 1-1 apartment with 2-3 people and have the rent be under $300 a month per person.  In fact, another user posted this response:

I pay $300 (CAD) for a room in a house. I share the kitchen, bathroom and living room with my house mates. (4 other people). I don’t own a car, I ride my bike, and I spend less than $200 per month on food. I pirate software.

My friend let a homeless man live in her garage for free. She bought him beer on occasion.

$150 a month should AT LEAST get you a garage with a filthy couch. C’mon man. Have some bloody standards. You’re being taken advantage of.

I really do not get this. People try to make/save money so that they can stay out of the outdoors, whereas this guy embraces it. I am all for living in smaller places, and living within your means. But this guy takes it to another level; he is paying to be homeless!

What do you guys feel his situation?
