Time is money, and I am all about saving as much time as I can. One of the biggest time wasters is waiting in line at the DPS (Department of Public Safety).  Let me give you some tips on how you can save a shit load of time.

The reason I am writing this article is because I have to renew my driver’s license soon, and I have to do it at the DPS. You might be thinking why don’t I just do it online? Well I would if I could, but I do not meet the requirements. Obviously, renewing my license online would be the most painless way to do it. If you are in my same shoes, you need to prepare yourself before you go to the DPS.

1)      Do not go on a Monday or Friday, those are usually the busiest days.

2)      Do not go the day after a public holiday.

3)      Do not go during break, when school is off or the hours after school is off, usually 2:30-3:00.

4)      Do not go during the beginning of the month.

5)      Do not arrive right when the DPS opens, because you and hundreds of others will have the same idea; if you plan on arriving early try to arrive earlier than the opening time to avoid the masses.

*Drumroll*…. and the best tip I learned throughout my whole DPS ordeal is to try getting your business done at a DPS in a less busy county. For instance, if your city has four DPS stations try going to the one in the next city. I drove 30 miles away to a different county, with a population of less than 10,000 and I was in and out under 15 minutes. This method costs some gas and some driving time, but beats waiting in line for 3-4 hours.

Who else here hates going to the DPS? :)
