Do you find it difficult to entertain guests? Or not sure what you guys should do on a Friday night? Why not play a board game? Crazy suggestion right?

In this decade, people usually entertain their guests with their fancy HD TV. While the TV is a great platform for entertainment, it does not generate as much human interaction as a board game will. So unless your definition of entertaining is providing a TV, which your guests can stare at for a few hours, then you should consider getting a board game. Let me explain.

When you and your friends watch a movie, or a sporting event, how much do you guys talk? Of course you can say “Nice Catch” or “That was a cool”, but how much real interaction do you guys make outside of one line statements?  Also, some people might not even want to talk to you, because they are too focused on watching TV. I am not saying that TV sucks, but rather if you want a fun & cheap way to actually interact with your friends, ditch the TV and get a board game.

Ok, one great thing about a board game is the cost – they are really cheap. For $15 you can buy Monopoly and replay the game forever; you do not need to worry about broken TVs or having electricity to play. Sure board games are inexpensive, but the main reason why you should get one is because they are fun and help generate interaction and the dialogue between guests.  Ever try playing a board game without talking? Whether it be explaining the rules or collecting game money, you have to communicate.  Let me give you a real life example.

My friends and I started to play Monopoly a few weeks ago. Now we are hooked and play every weekend. Why? Because of how much interaction Monopoly involves; all the trades, special rules we make, and alliances all add to the overall fun. Sure we could be playing Xbox or Playstation, but not everyone can play at once and the games do not last as long.  You might think we are crazy, but I think board game weekends are here to stay.  In fact, we just added two new games to our lineup – Life & Clue.

Conclusion: Board games will bring friends closer to together for a fraction of the price of  TV or Video game.
